The end of the story of The Borrowers was, as it turned out, by no means the end of Pod, Homily and their daughter Arrietty. They escaped to the fields where their cousins lived, but it was a long and dangerous journey. It was up the azalea bank, through the privet hedge and across the orchard, and they were hiding from humans and being attached by insects. But at last they found a new home and adapted themselves superbly to mid-field conditions. It was harder work in every way than under-floor borrowing, but to Arrietty the life was enchanting.
